Just hours after reports said the Raiders were set to speak with former NFL executive Ryan Grigson Gareon Conley Jersey , Pro Football Talk is now citing sources as saying it’s a ‘done deal’.We don’t know in what capacity Grigson would serve with the Raiders. It could be as little as a consultant as he was for the Seahawks last year or as much as Mike Mayock’s top assistant, replacing former Director of Player Personnel Joey Clinkscales.Despite the Colts going 11-5 in each of Grigson’s first three seasons as General Manager, he is highly criticized for his run as GM including trading a first round pick for Browns bust RB Trent Richardson (remember him?), blowing a first round pick on WR Phillip Dorsett despite a glaring need on the offensive line to protect Andrew Luck and a purported lack of people skills rubbing some people and players the wrong way. His track record had some Colts fans are waving the red flag to Raiders fans.Even the mention of the Raiders speaking to Grigson made the hair on a lot of Raiders fans necks raise. One other fan had a fairly good question. It’s a good question because should he be hired to just a consultant role as he was in Seattle, it shouldn’t really move the needle. He must have done something right prior to his years with the Colts to work his way up in the Eagles organization to as high as Director of Player Personnel. So, who knows.Follow @LeviDamienRaiders at Broncos recap Youth Derek Carrier Jersey , final score 20-19 : Raiders defense can’t hold off Broncos furious comeback Welcome to Week 2 of the NFL Season with the Raiders taking the opening kickoff from the Broncos at Mile High Stadium in Denver. Just like last week, Oakland’s offense again looked good in their opening drive with Jon Gruden’s scripted plays to start out the game. Unlike last week though the Raiders drive came to a stop inside the red zone so they settled for a 26 field goal by Mike Nugent. The drive lasted 9 plays for 67 yards and made the score 3-0 Raiders.Neither team was able to earn a first down (1 by penalty though) over the next 5 drives in a row, all 5 drives were 3 and outs except for a defensive holding penalty that nullified a Von Miller strip sack on Derek Carr. It took until the end of the first quarter before the Raiders got some excitement going again on offense. They managed to drive down to the Denver 21 before a sack on third down by Von Miller. Mike Nugent kicked a 46 yard field goal through though to make the score 6-0 Raiders. After that the Broncos looked to be heading to points themselves after a Denver rookie RB Phillip Lindsay scampered 53 yards down to the Oakland 22. However, the Raiders defense came up big after a bad decision to throw into double coverage from Case Keenum led to an interception by Rashaan Melvin. Both teams traded off 3 and outs again after the next two drives. Raiders rookie Maurice Hurst got his first career sack on the Broncos 3rd down which kickstarted some momentum for the Raiders. They went 10 plays, and 75 yards in 4:51 on the drive that ended with a 1 yard touchdown run from Marshawn Lynch. The drive also featured a couple of big plays to TE Jared Cook who continues to have excellent chemistry with Derek Carr. The extra point was blocked so the score after the touchdown had the Raiders leading 12-0 at the half. Denver got the ball to start the 2nd half and drove right down the field utilizing their two rookie running backs. Both Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman looked good on the drive for Denver. The Raiders did come up with a 3rd down stop on the drive but Bruce Irvin got a very costly unsportsmanlike penalty for berating the official. The very next play the Broncos appeared to score a touchdown but the play was overturned after an official scoring review. It didn’t matter anyway because Royce Freeman punched it in 2 plays later anyway to make the score 12-7 after their 11 play, 75 yard drive.Oakland took the punch from the Broncos though and immediately fought back with a 5 play , 75 yard touchdown drive of their own. Derek Carr has been fantastic in this game but especially so on the bullet 20 yard touchdown pass to Seth Roberts to make the score 19-7. The drive also had a big 30 yard reception from Amari Cooper, and at this point Carr is an amazing 21 of 22 for 213 yards and a touchdown. The smothering defense of the first half some how completely disappeared so far in the 2nd half for the Raiders, though they did hold the Broncos to a field goal this time. It was lucky though because they got a favorable call on what was awfully close to a great touchdown catch from Broncos rookie Courtland Sutton who just barely stepped out. Still, Denver was able to kick a 39 yard field goal to make the score 19-10.Oakland’s offense finally sputtered on their next drive after getting down to Denver’s 33 yard line. Instead of attempting the 50 yard field goal, Jon Gruden went for it on the 4th and inches play. Unfortunately, FB Keith Smith dropped the wide open screen pass so the Raiders turned over the ball on downs. The play was drawn up perfect Frostee Rucker Jersey , but the dropped pass ended the Raiders drive with a thud.Again, Denver relied on their talented rookie running backs to gash the Oakland defense for big chunks of yardage. It pains me to say that Phillip Lindsay especially looks impressive with his speed, balance and Mighty Mouse strength. Lindsay led the Broncos all the way down to the 1 but it was Case Keenum who got the running touchdown on a 4th and goal play. The Broncos gutsy call to go for it was rewarded with the touchdown to cap off the 14 play, 67 yard drive. The touchdown made the score 19-17 with 5:58 left in the 4th.Oakland’s offense needed a big drive with just the 2 point lead with less than 6 minutes to go in regulation. They got a huge 1st down on a 3rd and 1 run with just over 3 minutes left from Marshawn Lynch refusing to be denied as he carried tacklers to get the single yard he needed. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, they went 3 and out after that and had to punt with 2 minutes left in the 4th.It was up to the defense after that, they needed a huge stop because the Broncos only needed a field goal to snatch the victory away from Oakland. The Raiders defense couldn’t do it Authentic Leon Hall Jersey , the Broncos made their way into Raiders territory in the final seconds. The 36 yard field goal was good, Raiders lose 20-19.

Falcons vs. Saints: How (and can) Atlanta stop Alvin Kamara? Alvin Kamara is a great running back. I think we can acknowledge that and still loathe him for his association with the Saints Youth Grady Jarrett Jersey , and so we shall. The question this week is how the Falcons plan to stop him, and whether that plan will be successful. The good news is that Kamara has scuffled a bit in back-to-back weeks on the ground, with 21 carries for just 75 yards, though he’s scored twice. The bad news is that he’s doing his usual fine work through the air, with 15 receptions for 165 yards already. Were this the same crew on defense as a year ago, I’d be pretty confident. The Falcons knocked Kamara out of the first meeting in 2017—I’m not endorsing that, just saying—which meant his numbers were quite low. The second time around, Kamara managed just 2.7 yards per carry and 32 yards on the ground, though he did get seven receptions for 58 yards. That was when Deion Jones and Keanu Neal were roaming the field, however, and much has changed since then. How should the Falcons stop Kamara? They need to focus on him. Obviously Michael Thomas and the other Saints receiving options are plenty capable, but this secondary remains very good, and a year ago the team managed to not let Thomas kill them, even if he was quite good. Kamara needs to be priority ,1# and whenever possible, he needs to have someone dedicated to keeping an eye on him.In an ideal world, that’d be Deion Jones, but Jones isn’t in this game. That means it’s probably going to fall to Duke Riley and whoever else Marquand Manuel and Dan Quinn feel can handle such an onerous task Womens Matt Bryant Jersey , and the Falcons would be wise to switch things up if they’re burned early. As good as Drew Brees is and as good as this New Orleans offense can be, Kamara is still the biggest single threat in this game. If they get away from paying extra attention to him, he’ll likely make them pay. Will the Falcons be able to stop Kamara? This is a much trickier question to answer. Based on last week’s performance, if Riley has coverage responsibilities for Kamara it’s going to get hairy. Riley was game but made the wrong decision too many times against the Panthers and wound up either out of plays or making miscues that turned into big plays. The Falcons are asking an awful lot of him at the moment, but they don’t really have an obvious alternative unless they’re ready to move on to Foye Oluokun already. Riley will still probably get first crack at Kamara, but chances are good he’s going to wind up surrendering some significant yardage unless he’s made a drastic leap in a single week. The Falcons could then try putting Damontae Kazee or Foye Oluokun on him, or they could really go for it and put him up against one of the team’s cornerbacks who are equipped to deal with him. That’ll likely only become an option if he’s killing the Falcons, though, which unfortunately does seem like a legitimate possibility.I think ultimately the Falcons will find a way to keep Kamara from being the primary reason they lose this game. I also think he’s going to have a strong effort overall, and this week might determine whether Duke Riley stays in Deion Jones’ job going forward or not.The Falcons replace the defense en masse in this week’s sacrifice It was Wednesday before Damontae Kazee noticed that anything was amiss. There had been worrying signs, in retrospect. Robert Alford had taken to wearing black tracksuits and motivational t-shirts, starting on Monday morning. Vic Beasley was listening to “Everybody” by Backstreet Boys on loop and Tweeting about Drew Brees. And Duke Riley had shaved off his trademark Louisiana waterfall, replacing it with a shaved head and sensible goatee. But it was only Wednesday that he heard the chants. When Dan Quinn entered the room to speak with the defense, they greeted him, their voices hollow and yet triumphant.“Good morning, Coachlord!” they cried as Quinn greeted them with a grimacing flash of teeth. “Good morning, team!” he returned, his voice raspy and his cape sweeping seemingly across the entire room. “Today is another day Womens att Bosher Jersey , and our return to glory is nigh. I have every confidence you will play as you were born to do, as if you were forged in the flames beneath this very facility!”After his speech, Quinn blinked, long and slow.“I mean heck! The flames of heck!” Kazee blinked, too, but it was with suspicion and fear. A glance around the room showed his teammates swaying with dull red glows to their eyes, like Kroy Biermann’s contacts on a winter evening. When Quinn swept out of the room, and his teammates on defense sat dully around the locker room, Kazee decided to follow him. It was not hard to do, as the darkness seemed to gather around his head coach as he strode toward his office. When the great iron doors shut behind him, Kazee speared himself across the hallway and leaned his ear against the door. He did not take off his helmet. The voices he heard were muffled, but the words were still clear. “Your plan to sacrifice the entire defense, replacing them with clay homunculi fired in the forges of the Under Zaxby’s, was a stroke of genius,” Quinn muttered.“Of course it was! If you cannot prevent this defense from allowing more than 120 points in three weeks, I will take matters into my own wings,” boomed a voice in return, all metal-on-metal. “Are you not worried that despite their obvious discipline , these horrors-that-would-be-men will still struggle with tackling? I mean, they’re made of clay,” Quinn asked tentatively. “Oh, now you’re worried about tackling,” groused the iron voice. “Where was that concern last week? Or the week before that? Or the week before that? These creatures do not tire, do not slacken, and do not compliment Drew Brees on Twitter, for which you are quite welcome.” Kazee shifted at that, and his helmet banged against the door with a reverberating boom. He hurried away from the door, but it slammed open and Quinn was gliding toward him on what Kazee swore was a cloud of shadows. “Don’t come any closer, Coach!” Kazee cried, head down threateningly. “I won’t be turned into one of your monsters!” “I still need you, Damontae,” Quinn said soothingly as he slid closer, his voice as soft and rustly as bat wings in sensible velvet evening wear. “Despite your penchant for tackling like Ralph Wiggum through a bay window, you are the steadiest defender we have besides Takk, who I believe is still engaged in hand-to-hand combat in the fiery pits below this facility. There is no need to replace you, and indeed Womens Desmond Trufant Jersey , I would hope the need will never come.”Kazee warily looked up. “You’re not going to throw me into a pit of fire?”“No, no! This defense needs a leader, especially because it turns out that homonculi are very bad at freelancing. We must achieve results soon, and you will be counted on to ensure we do. Otherwise, our lives will all be forfeit,” Quinn said. “Anyways, have a great night! See you tomorrow.” At that, Quinn turned smartly and headed back into his office, leaving Kazee alone in the darkening hallway with his thoughts. “He’ll be trouble, I’d wager,” the Great Metal Falcon said, disapproving and steely. “If he is, he will be dealt with,” Quinn returned with a grim smile. “After all, for us, the answers are within our own locker room...or our own subsurface hellscape!” The resulting boom of laughter was so loud Kazee could hear it as he prepared himself to re-enter the locker room and the growing sounds of the Backstreet Boys.

The Detroit Lions injury report is slimmed down this week. Running back Theo Riddick , who missed the Dolphins game with a knee injury, is the only player sitting out of practice for Detroit Thursday. The relatively clean bill of health the team has at the moment is something they will be hoping to sustain heading into this weekend’s pivotal matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. What looked like a scary injury report on Wednesday trimmed down on Thursday. Wide receiver Golden Tate and running back Ameer Abdullah were both full participants on offense Thursday after being limited a day before with ankle injuries. All-pro cornerback Darius Slay was a full participant on defense after being limited Wednesday with a toe injury. Tate and Slay are two of the most important players on the roster so them potentially reaching full health will be huge for Detroit going forward. With Riddick set to miss another game this week, Abdullah reaching full health will be a great boon to the Lions as they try to replace him. Second-year linebacker Jarrad Davis missed practice Wednesday with a calf injury. He was limited in his return to action on Thursday. Davis is coming off of a career day in Miami and Detroit will hope that he remains healthy enough to keep his momentum going. Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah was limited once again as he is still recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered Week 1.Lions Thursday ReportRB Theo Riddick (knee) - No practiceDE Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder) - Limited practiceLB Jarrad Davis (calf) - Limited practiceRB Ameer Abdullah (ankle) - Full practiceWR Golden Tate (ankle) - Full practiceCB Darius Slay (toe) - Full practice This has been one of the more active NFL trade deadlines for fantasy purposes.Fans of Houston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are assuredly excited by their new players, picking up Demaryius Thomas, Golden Tate and Ty Montgomery. However, it's the teams that traded those players that will likely provide the most opportunity for fantasy value.DENVER BRONCOSThe Broncos shipped Thomas to the Texans , which will condense the target share within this offense. The primary beneficiaries are Emmanuel Sanders and Courtland Sutton, as the Thomas departing removes 20 percent of the team's targets this season and one of its top red zone threats.Sanders' role won't change much. According to Pro Football Focus, Sanders has taken 64.5 percent of his snaps in the slot. He's been very successful there, averaging 10 yards per target and catching 76 percent of his targets. Look for similar production for Sanders moving forward but with a better floor/ceiling combination on volume. On the other hand, Sutton gets a huge boost. Despite being Denver's third receiver, Sutton already accounted for 22 percent of the team's air yards, just behind 25 percent for Thomas. With his target share likely moving from the low teens to around 20 percent and much of that volume coming down the field, the ceiling here has expanded significantly for the rookie out of SMU.DETROIT LIONSThe Lions sent their most targeted wideout in Tate to the Eagles , removing a whopping 27 percent of the team's targets from their offense. The clear beneficiaries here are Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay. Neither will take Tate's role out of the slot, but they should each receive a boost in volume. Given the efficiency and profile of each wide receiver, that boost is going to have a meaningful impact.Jones is averaging 8.2 yards per target and historically has a TD rate well above the league average for wide receivers. He's the big play receiver with a 15.5 average depth of target (aDOT), which measures how far downfield players are when they are thrown the ball. While the second year receiver Golladay also has big play ability down the field, his 12.3 aDOT indicates he runs more shorter routes than Jones, which accounts for the much higher catch rate. At 6-4 with speed, Golladay sees the larger jump in ceiling in this offense.Tate's direct role in the offense may be filled by T.J. Jones or undrafted free agent Brandon Powell. That will be an interesting situation to monitor moving forward, and both players are worth stashing in dynasty leagues.GREEN BAY PACKERSIt's finally going to be the Aaron Jones show in Green Bay. The second year back has the most athletic upside of the team's options. He has burst and agility and produce well in college Authentic Darius Slay Jersey , both in terms of yards per carry and percentage of team yards and touchdowns.Out of the bye week, Jones already looked like the primary back for Green Bay, playing 32 snaps to 13 for Jamaal Williams and six for Montgomery. With Montgomery sent to the Ravens, there's one less competitor for touches in the Green Bay offense.

TEMPE , Ariz. (AP) — Although the Arizona Cardinals went down to their seventh defeat of the season, there were positive aspects to their 26-14 loss at Kansas City.David Johnson broke loose for his best game of the year and the Cardinals defense harassed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes better than anyone has all season.Johnson, who had been bottled up through the first half of the season as part of the worst-ranked offense in the NFL, accumulated 183 yards from scrimmage — 98 yards rushing (in 21 carries) and 85 yards receiving (on seven catches). Johnson scored both of Arizona's touchdowns, on a nine-yard pass from Josh Rosen and a one-yard run."It felt good," Johnson said after the game. "Like I was saying, it made me feel like it was back to … the 2016 offense. We got some momentum going as an offense running the ball. We got some good confidence going as well."It was the second game for Arizona with Byron Leftwich as offensive coordinator."I thought it was a great game plan by the offensive coaches," coach Steve Wilks said in his weekly Monday news conference. "I thought Byron did a tremendous job calling the game and getting into the flow and rhythm of the game. As we all have seen — and you guys have been here before myself — what David is capable of doing. We saw that with some hard runs inside the tackles and did some good things getting outside as well as in the pass game. I thought Byron did a tremendous job in just really trying to get him the ball."Johnson has topped 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the past two games after failing to do so in the first seven of the season."It means that we are moving in the right direction," Wilks said. "It means that we're evolving on the offensive side of the ball. We came into this game talking about trying to steal some possessions and trying to keep those guys off the field. We did that by sustaining drives — a 14-play drive and starting the third quarter with a 13-play drive, and they both ending in touchdowns. Where we came up short was the consistency after that, not being able to get back into the end zone."Arizona used up 6:01 in its first touchdown drive and 7:12 in the second. The Cardinals had the ball down 26-20 and Rosen's 23-yard pass to Johnson put the ball on the Arizona 40 early in the fourth quarter. But Rosen's screen pass, intended for Johnson, was intercepted by Justin Houston at the Cardinals 35. That led to a Kansas City touchdown. After that, Rosen was battered behind some shaky pass protection as Arizona was forced to mainly abandon the run.On defense, poor play in the Arizona secondary led to a quick Kansas City touchdown on the game's first possession. But the Cardinals were tough after that, sacking Mahomes five times — two by Chandler Jones. Mahomes had never been sacked more than twice in a game before Sunday."I thought the D-line did a tremendous job of staying in their rush lanes," Wilks said. "Coverage-wise, I thought those guys at times when we were able to get to him, he was holding the ball. So, we did a good job complementing one another. Then there were times we just pressured him. It was great to be able to get to him five times. I just wish we could have come up with some takeaways."The 26 points were a season low for Kansas City.It might have been about as good as the Cardinals could have expected on the road against the Chiefs, who improved to 9-1."There are no moral victories in this game," Wilks said. "We went to Kansas City to win a football game, and we came up short. Now , there are a lot of things we can build off to get better. It was very encouraging, some of the things you saw on both sides of the ball, as well as in special teams, and that's what we are going to continue to try to do."The Cardinals will find themselves in the unusual position of being favored on Sunday when they host the Oakland Raiders.Notes: Wilks said he hadn't received the results of an MRI on right guard Justin Pugh's injured knee. One of the most notable aspects of Steve Wilks’ introductory press conference as the Cardinals’ new head coach was his vow that he and and his staff would do everything they could to embrace and develop the players on the roster who possess “different personalities.”This directive to Steve Wilks and his staff obviously came from Michael Bidwill and Steve Keim—-and understandably so. Any Cardinals’ fan who has been closely following the team knew exactly which players Steve Wilks was referring to——the Cardinals of a different feather. Now that the Cardinals are in the 4th quarter of the 2018 season, let’s take a look at how the “different personalities” are doing under the tutelage of the coaching staff.T D.J. HumphriesBig, talented, affable, fun loving and a bit goofy. Almost within days after being selected in the 1st round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the young 19 year old tackle found himself in Bruce Arians’ and Harold Goodwin’s dog much so that Arians publicly revealed the coaches’ nickname for him: “Knee Deep.” Humphries was deemed soft-bodied, out of shape, lazy and immature. He started 0 games as a rookie, then 13 games in 2016, 5 games in 2017 (dislocated kneecap) and only 9 games in 2018 (knee injury). That amounts to 27 starts in 4 seasons (7.8 a year). When Humphries was recently placed on the IR, the club said it was to prevent major surgery and to start getting him ready for next year.Steve Keim said on the radio last week that he sat Humphries down and talked to him about “availability.” Keim, who had already elected to pick up Humphries’ 2019 5th year option at $9.625M reiterated that Humphries would be back in 2019—-but the question is—-how can the Cardinals at this point justify a near $10M salary for a player who has under-achieved and has missed 18 games the past two seasons due to knee injuries?RB David JohnsonHumble, multi-talented, self-critical, highly dedicated. The Cardinals, per Terry McDonough’s suggestion, hit a home run with David Johnson in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Johnson’s epic performance in 2016 has all the NFL buzzing. Then came the season-ending wrist injury in week one of last year. After holding out during the team’s mini-camp and then reporting to training camp early, Steve Keim elected to re-sign Johnson this off-season to a contract that pays him $13M a year. This contract is akin to the reward contract Keim gave to Tyrann Mathieu—-a year before their current contracts were up.This season has not gone the way David Johnson and the Cardinals have hoped. Johnson has been the workhorse of a highly unimaginative, conservative offense. As a result, he has been taking a pounding , as time after time he is being asked to hammer into the middle of adefensive wall. Johnson looks tentative. He is not running with his usual burst and uncanny flexibility and while he has remained humble and has been saying all the right things, on the field, he looks mostly demoralized. The question is: will the Cardinals be able to use an coach Johnson in such a way that he will revert back to his 2016 form?DT Robert NkemdicheEccentric, explosive, tightly wound, soft spoken and introverted. The Cardinals gambled that in Robert Nkemdiche they were getting a top 10 talent in the bottom portion of the 1st round in the 2016 NFL Draft. This pick came at a time when the Cardinals were anticipating the loss of DE Calais Campbell in 2017 to free was a controversial pick. Nkemdiche literally and figuratively “fell out of favor” at Ole Miss when, in a drunken fit, he fell off a hotel balcony in Atlanta. After meeting with Nkemdiche a couple of times prior to the draft, Michael Bidwill and Steve Keim gave the player their stamp of approval. As was the case with D.J. Humphries, Nkemdiche was almost immediate castigated by Bruce Arians and the coaches. Arians said repeatedly that Nkemdiche needed to “learn how to become a pro.”Then the injuries started sidelining him and by the end of his rookie season Nkemdiche played in only 5 games as a rotational DT.This week Nkemdiche was placed on the IR with an undisclosed knee injury that requires surgery. This means that in 3 years Nkemdiche has played in only 27 games. Up until this year, Nkemdiche only had produced 12 tackles and 0 sacks. This year he collected a career high 32 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Three weeks ago in Los Angeles, Nkemdiche put an elite performance on tape versus the Chargers. He was a one man wrecking crew. He amassed 7 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a big time tackle for loss that knocked RB Melvin Gordon out of the game. But—-over the past two games Nkemdiche put up a rather quiet 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss versus Green Bay and zeros across the board in 21 snaps versus Detroit. The questions with Nkemdiche as he heads into his 4th season: (a) Is he the kind of high strung, quick-twitch athlete who will always incur injuries? (b) Will his production always be inconsistent?CB Brandon WilliamsSelected in the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Brandon Williams remains one of Steve Keim’s most controversial picks. The fact that he started and struggled mightily as a rookie opposite Patrick Peterson can be attributed to the reality that he only had played one year of CB in college.Blessed with ideal size and speed one would think that Steve Wilks and DB coach David Merritt could finally bring out the best in Williams—-except that despite the revolving door at RCB this season, Williams has been relegated strictly to special teams where he struggled to get past the 20 on kickoff returns and has made progress as one of the team’s gunners. In 42 career games, Williams has produced 33 tackles (21 his rookie year), 0 interceptions and 3 pass breakups (his rookie year). The question is—-how long can the Cardinals afford to keep Williams on the roster as strictly a gunner if he cannot contribute to the defense? He only has 5ST tackles this season, while rookie Zeke Turner leads the team and the NFL with 16 special teams’ tackles.WR Chad WilliamsSelected in the 3rd round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Chad Williams of Grambling suffered through a miserable rookie season. Strangely, during a pre-draft interview Williams said that he had worked so hard to get to where he was, that he wondered whether he would do it all over again. He promptly came into camp out of shape—-got gassed so badly during special teams drills at the beginning of practices that he was didn't have the legs to be a consistent participant in the offense. Bruce Arians said at the beginning the 2017 season that it likely wouldn't be until after Thanksgiving before Williams would be ready to take snaps on offense. This year, Williams came to camp in much better shape—-he earned a starting job—-and while he has occasionally shown some positive flashes as a receiver and a good blocker , he has been inactive for the past 5 weeks because of ankle and hamstring injuries. To date his receiving numbers are 11/113/10.3/1 TD. The questions are: (a) Can Williams have a break out game and season? (b) Can he stay healthy and in tip top shape?QB Josh RosenOne of the main reasons why Josh Rosen slipped to pick #10 in the 2018 NFL Draft was his reputation for being pompous, petulant (at times) and aloof. The fact is that Rosen has been nothing of the sort with the Cardinals. Thus far, he has been an exemplar of humbleness, poise and attentiveness. His work with the media has been outstanding. The coaches turned to Rosen earlier than they had wished—-and Rosen has held up pretty well despite the changes in coordinators and along the injury-riddled offensive line. With three games remaining, Rosen has passed at 55.4% for 1,910 yards, 10 TDs, 12 ints, a 68.3 QBR. He has 3 wins under his belt—-the most notable coming in the upset win over the Packers. The question is: Wouldn’t the Cardinals be wise to hire an offensive guru in order to put Josh Rosen, David Johnson and the offense in the best possible hands for the next four years? Rosen has now had 5 offensive coordinators in the past 4 years. And one could argue that he has never played behind a good, solid offensive line. Shouldn't the Cardinals’ top priority be to surround Rosen and Johnson with the best possible coaches and offensive linemen?Cardinals of a feather who got away:DE Calais Campbell—-drew public criticism from Bruce Arians during the 2015 season. Became a captain and 1st Team All-Pro with the Jaguars in 2017 (67 tackles, 14 TFL, 14.5 sacks, 30 QB hits). This year to date: 55 tackles, 15 TFL, 7.0 sacks, 14 QB hits.S Tony Jefferson—-following a superb 2015 season which culminated in his 15 tackle performance in the NFLCG, Steve Keim low-balled him with a $1.4M tender and a year later after an excellent year let him go in free agency in 2017—-which prompted Bruce Arians to question, “ Will Tony play as well now that he has the money.” 2017: 79 tackles, 7 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 5 QB hits, 2 PD. 2018 today (11 games , recently out with ankle injury): 61 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 QB hits, 1 sack, 5 PD. Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh has consistently praised Jefferson for his leadership.S D.J. Swearinger—-was immediately elected defensive captain by his Redskin teammates. 2017: 79 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 10 PD, 4 ints.; 2018 (13 games): 50 tackles, 1 sack, 10 PD, 4 ints.). The coaches have embraced his out-spoken nature and tenacious, hard-hitting style of play.WR John Brown—-took exception to Bruce Arians’ and the coaches’ treatment of him and his sickle-cell limitations last pre-season (2017: 21/299/14.2/3 TD) and is having an impressive bounce back year with the Ravens (38/672/17.7/5 TD), who have raved about him from the get-go.S Tyrann Mathieu—-he played like his spirit was broken the past two years in Arizona and has now been rejuvenated as a captain with the 9-4 Texans: 78 tackles, 3 sacks, 7 PD, 2 ints. Of all of these defections, Mathieu’s was perhaps the most damaging to the Cardinals’ public relations and national image. It may be no odd coincidence that when Mathieu was balling big-time and at his best, so were the Cardinals. The Honey Badger was an icon among Cardinals’ fans.

Raiders Las Vegas stadium gets address change and Al Davis gets street named after him This was a tricky little maneuver by the Raiders. The lot where the stadium was to go was located at 5617 Dean Martin Drive. But with a clever street name change Oakland Raiders Hats , it will now be located at 3333 Al Davis Way.No, Dean Martin isn’t losing the street named after him. That street will remain in the crooner’s name right across the freeway from the street named after his rat pack pal, Frank Sinatra Drive. There is a small road that notches into the northeast corner of the lot which didn’t have a name. It was simply a connector road between Aldebaran Avenue and Dean Martin Drive. That connector road will now be called Al Davis Way and 3333 is now the address for the Raiders stadium currently under construction.Al Davis, of course, was the Managing General Partner of the Raiders for nearly 50 years. He was an NFL pioneer and was the face of the Raiders as well as its voice and keeper of the Raider mystique. The stadium should absolutely be located on a street bearing his name.Follow @LeviDamienThis stat perfectly sums up Raiders bipolar first half vs second half in their first two games You know those memes where you take those Rob Lowe commercials and say “Hi Oakland Raiders Hoodie , I’m Rob Lowe with DirecTV... and I’m Rob Lowe with cable”? In 2013 , the Atlanta Falcons tried to secure their future at cornerback in the post-Brent Grimes era by adding Desmond Trufant in the first round and Robert Alford in the second round. By any objective measure, that decision was a huge success. Both players were also immediately—and remained—extremely divisive. On Tuesday, the Falcons ended the era, cutting ties with Alford after six seasons in Atlanta. Trufant remains under contract and his contract virtually ensures he’ll remain with the team until 2020, as his contract loses dead money in 2021 and especially in 2022. Trufant does all the quiet things a cornerback should do well, from coverage to pursuit to (mostly) tackling, but his horrendous hands and occasional lapses drive fans crazy and likely will for years to come. He has, however, lived up to his draft billing. So did Alford, though, and I wanted to take a little time to pay tribute to him today. Many draftniks thought Alford would be the superior player to Trufant when he joined the Falcons, and while that didn’t prove to be true, he had many more exciting big plays than Tru, mixed in with a number of frustrating, eye-catching penalties and mistakes. When Alford was really good—as he was at times in 2015, through much of 2016, and certainly in 2017—he looked like one of the better No. 2 cornerbacks in the league, with evident athleticism and instincts. When he was really bad—as he was at times in 2013, 2014, and certainly 2018—he got beat a lot. That stat perfectly captures the Alford era. He was the NFL equivalent of a three true outcome hitter in baseball , living on an island against a receiver and either making an impressive play to prevent a catch, allowing a downfield reception, or committing a costly penalty. During his very best years (and in particular, during a Super Bowl where had had a pick six and came a knuckle’s length away from sealing the franchise’s first championship win), the number of mistakes were dwarfed by the aggressive coverage and the plays he made on the ball. During his worst years, like 2018, the reverse was true, and his age (30), contract ($7.9 million in cap savings by cutting him), and 2018 decline were the primary reasons he was cut in the first place. But I think the “good riddance” from plenty of fans misses the mark here when you acknowledge the good that Alford has done and his place in the team’s history. Alford’s place in the franchise history Deion Jones, William Moore and Curtis Lofton are the only Falcons with a credible case to be considered better second-round picks in the Dimitroff era than Alford, and Lofton arguably wasn’t in Atlanta long enough. Going all the way back to 2000, you can really only add the great Jonathan Babineaux to that list.Critically, Alford is the best cornerback drafted in the second round since 2000, and he has a credible case for one of the better cornerbacks drafted since then, period. He proved more durable and more talented than Anthony Midget, Jimmy Williams, Chris Houston, David Irons, Wilrey Fontenot Youth Takkarist McKinley Jersey , Chevis Jackson, William Middleton, Chris Owens, Dominique Franks, Dezmen Southward, and Jalen Collins. Only Trufant, DeAngelo Hall, and hopefully Isaiah Oliver will prove to have had a better career in Atlanta than him, and Alford still has time to build on his overall career with a new team. For a team that strikes out way too often in the second round, Alford was an exception, a player who finished 1st overall in team history for pass deflections, 20th in interceptions, tied for 4th in defensive touchdowns, and 23rd in tackles. There’s no question his pass interference habit, costly as it sometimes was, will remain a part of his legacy, but I think over time we’ll come to appreciate the good work he did in Atlanta. I obviously hope Oliver eclipses him—I want this team to win and win big—but I respect what Alford brought to the franchise during his time in Atlanta. There are few who would argue that Alford was a great cornerback, but he also largely didn’t deserve the heat he took throughout his career in Atlanta. Instead, he was a good one with stellar highs and frustrating lows, but he was also a net good player who gave the Falcons six quality years during a time where they were Super Bowl-caliber contenders , however briefly. Something strange is happening with Manchester United. Something unexpected; something unsettling. Something that you might almost — impossibly, unthinkably— call competent.Martin Keown, on the television, called it United’s best ever result in Europe. Martin Keown, on the television, was being silly. Still, United’s 2-1 victory over Juventus was a cracking result, and it came attached to a performance that wasn’t perfect, that creaked and groaned in places, but that made quite a lot of sense.Beating Juventus in Turin is, however you manage, a decent achievement. Nobody else has managed it this season; only Lazio, Napoli, and Real Madrid managed it last. As a win it relied on a few excellent saves from David de Gea, some profligate finishing from Juventus, and some magnificent late Arsenal-ing from Wojciech Szcz臋sny. But United went 1-0 down to Juventus a few weeks ago, and meekly accepted their fate. Here they didn’t.Indeed, it’s becoming a habit: concede, then come back. It’s probably not as useful a habit as taking the lead, controlling a game Black Terrell McClain Jersey , and winning, but it’s not a bad placeholder in the meantime. Since Jose Mourinho woke up on the morning of Oct. 6 to find the story of his imminent sacking all over the papers, United have played six games. They’ve conceded first in five of them, and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any. But they’ve only lost the one.A kind of attacking shape is starting to appear as well, predicated on a move away from the tired, goal-shy figure of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian may be injured, or may just be taking a moment to gather his thoughts, but in his absence United’s attack has been a shifting thing. Alexis Sanchez started against Juve, with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard for company, which meant that United had nobody to fire low-percentage long balls and inaccurate crosses towards. In place of that, there was movement, pace, energy, a little bit of trickery. Even Sanchez looked a little revived, causing more problems for his opponents than his teammates. Meanwhile, Martial is starting to purr again. Admittedly, this didn’t lead to a grand weight of chances against Juventus’ brutal central defenders, and both goals came from set pieces. But it did mean that United looked a better kind in their toothless. A team with teeth coming, perhaps, not long gone. Teething problems Black Brandon Fusco Jersey , not gummy decrepitude. We’ve probably spent too much time talking about teeth. Let’s move on.Add to that a settled central defensive partnership — of all the defenders Mourinho despises, he despises Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof the least — the re-emergence of Ander Herrera in midfield, and a sudden happy knack for substitutions, and United are starting to come together into something. This thing may not be good enough to win the Champions League. It may not even be good enough to qualify for it next time around. But it’s already better than whatever that was that lost to West Ham.There’s a simple test for when United are in a good moment: If we take it as a given that Mourinho will always be acting up, come rain or shine, win or lose. And in Turin, as he ambled around the pitch with his hand to his ear, then laughed about it in the press conference afterwards, he looked like he was having fun again. This may not be particularly concerning to Europe’s settled big beasts. Manchester City, in particular, will be eyeing United’s still-rickety defense hungrily ahead of Sunday’s derby. But over the last month and a half, ever since rumors of Mourinho’s imminent dismissal came to a head, United have looked like a team getting better. Which is nice. Because before that they looked like 11 men with a headache, being shouted at by a man with a toothache. And that’s not a Super League that anybody’s signing up for.

The Detroit Lions have signed free agent linebacker Kelvin Sheppard. The Lions also announced Wednesday that they have signed defensive end Alex Barrett to the practice squad and released tight end Jerome Cunningham from the practice squad. The moves come one day after Detroit traded standout receiver Golden Tate to Philadelphia for a third-round draft pick . Coach Matt Patricia said that deal was a difficult decision Youth Kerryon Johnson Jersey , and he has confidence in the players still on the team. The Lions play at Minnesota this weekend.Sheppard made six starts for the New York Giants last season and 11 in 2016. He's also played for Miami, Indianapolis and Buffalo. He was drafted by the Bills in 2011.The cheat sheet: Patriots’ offensive adjustments give defenses fits The main way to beat the Patriots is to not make it easy on them, especially on offense. Unfortunately for the Lions, they’ve made mediocre offenses look sensational through the first two weeks. The Lions defense is tied for last in the NFL in points allowed, yielding 39 a game. The current top defense in the NFL, which belongs to the Los Angeles Rams , is surrendering just 6.5 points per game, and the NFL average defense is giving up about 22 points per game. Giving up nearly twice the NFL average in points per game just as Tom Brady and the Patriots roll into town is downright terrifying.“We certainly have things that we need to fix first and foremost, to make sure that those are taken care of before we play the Patriots,” Patricia said this week in his conference call with reporters. “That’s the biggest thing for us right now, that we just try to get the problems that we’ve had so far handled, so when we walk into the game , they’re still not an issue this weekend.”The Lions have a lot to clean up and must do it quickly. Despite missing key offensive and defensive players, the Patriots are not a team you can take lightly. What consistently impresses me (and frustrates opposing defenses) is how good the Patriots are at setting up certain offensive looks and making adjustments based on what the defense gives them. Here’s a look at how the Patriots did this last week against the Jaguars:They run plays, see how the defense reacts, and then adjust accordingly. If the Lions aren’t careful those adjustments will go for big plays on Sunday.Opponent snapshotThe Patriots haven’t exactly hit their stride yet this season. So far they barely eked out a Week 1 win over the Houston Texans after having an 18 point lead, and lost in a relative beatdown at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.So what team is going to show to Ford Field on Sunday?“We’re going to try as hard as we can to make up that ground as quickly as possible,” Belichick said at a press conference earlier this week. “It’s about where it usually is at this point in the season , just not at the point you like it to be at. It’s early, and there’s a long way to go. Hopefully, we can keep improving every day and every week.”Patriots’ biggest threat Tom BradyI don’t care how old he is. I don’t care how many quarrels he has with his head coach. I don’t even care how many Super Bowl rings he has. The only thing I care about Tom Brady is how effective he is on Sunday. Because, as I see it, he’s going to have to put this team on his back to stand a chance this season—even against the Lions.Brady is so smart and effective at taking advantage of what teams want to do on defense. The trick for the players is to not overthink the situation on the field. “With his level of expertise and his level to just understand defense, understand coverage Womens Kenny Golladay Jersey , understand location, run-stick, I mean it’s the full package,” Patricia said. “I think you’re also in a situation though where people go out and try to do too much or trying to over-disguise something, you put yourself in a bad situation, [and] he’s going to find that pretty quick.”Patriots’ weak linkRun defenseThe Patriots are 27th in the NFL in run yards allowed per game (135.5 per game). While the Patriots are traditionally a dominant team Youth Matthew Stafford Jersey , run defense is not their strong suit. Typically, the Patriots are able to make up for poor run defense by playing with the lead. This forces team to throw the ball more often and abandon the run. The only way the Lions can exploit the Patriots’ lackluster run defense is to control the clock and successfully run a balanced offense. Bottom lineBill Belichick is 14-8 all-time against his former assistants. That stat isn’t shocking. We all know how Belichick assistants have fared as NFL head coaches. But it certainly isn’t comforting either. The Lions will need to play a near flawless game if they stand any chance of winning. There won’t be many secrets between these two teams so everything will come down to execution—which doesn’t bode too well for the Lions.PredictionPatriots 31 Lions 24

Ask the men he coaches what makes Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner tick Arizona Cardinals T-Shirt , and you get a variation of the same response. He's a dude. A good dude. But just a dude."There's nothing special or outrageous or eccentric," guard David DeCastro said. And that might be exactly what the Steelers need after six highly productive if occasionally volatile seasons with Todd Haley calling the plays. On the surface Fichtner and his predecessor could not be more different. The sometimes combustible Haley wasn't one to hide his emotions and followed a personal mandate to wear shorts at every practice regardless of the weather.Fichtner, promoted from quarterbacks coach to coordinator in January after the team allowed Haley's contract to expire, takes a decidedly more even-keel approach. The most recent time he remembers truly losing it on the field came during the 2010 season opener against Atlanta. When Rashard Mendenhall crossed the goal line for a walk-off win, Fichtner leapt into the air and jokes he may have pulled his hamstring in the process. To be fair, the 54-year-old Fichtner can still move a little bit. He finished practice on Thursday by playfully dropping into coverage as a safety while the first-team offense went through a quick walkthrough after the defense left the field.Unlike Haley, Fichtner makes more conservative choices, at least sartorially. While Haley showed off his calves, Fichtner is usually in sweats, a long-sleeved undershirt and a pullover as he was on Wednesday even as temperatures soared into the 90s.The thing is, Fichtner didn't really look uncomfortable. Probably a good thing considering the stakes of his new gig.He takes over one of the league's most star-laden offenses, even with All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell out while waiting ... and waiting ... to sign his one-year franchise tender. All Fichtner has to do is design an attack that will produce a fifth consecutive playoff berth and 鈥?the team hopes 鈥?its first trip to the Super Bowl in eight years.Asked if he's ready to be second-guessed every Monday and Fichtner smiled."Sure, absolutely, comes with it Arizona Cardinals Hats ," Fichtner said. "I get it."He's been there before, just not for a while. He's a football lifer. His father Ross was a quarterback at Purdue then spent eight seasons as a cornerback for the Cleveland Browns in the 1960s. Randy didn't wander far afield. He played briefly at Purdue then went immediately into coaching after graduation. His nomadic climb up the ladder included four years at Arkansas State from 1997-2000, where he crossed paths with a young defensive backs coach whose energy and edge Fichtner couldn't help but be drawn to.So when that young defensive backs coach called in 2006 and offered Fichtner a job in the NFL, Fichtner figured there was no way he could tell Mike Tomlin no.More than a decade later, the partnership is still going and is one of the main reasons Fichtner stayed in Pittsburgh rather than chase other opportunities."That's just, my relationship with Mike," Fichtner said. "I told him when I came, I told him 'I'm coming for you' and since I've been here, I'm all-in for the (owners) and the organization also. Makes it a couple of reasons. I've always felt I've been content with jobs that I've had and I'm content and just do the best I can."Having some of the most talented players at his disposal doesn't hurt either. Fichtner has developed a strong bond with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who figures to given plenty of leeway to run the no-huddle as he pleases when the Steelers open the season in Cleveland on Sunday."I'm sure he's quite capable of making the right decisions at the right time," Fichtner said. "He's done it in the past and I don't see it being any different in the future."Still, even Roethlisberger is a bit curious how different things will be with Fichtner's voice coming through his helmet instead of Haley's."I don't know," Roethlisberger said. "We'll see. That's the question everyone wants to find out. What's Randy's personality? What are his tendencies? We'll all find out on Sunday I guess."Josh Dobbs, who credited Fichtner's tutelage for helping him supplant Landry Jones as Roethlisberger's primary backup coming out of training camp Arizona Cardinals Womens Hoodie , is curious to see how willing Fichtner will be to let the creativity he shows during meetings come to life on the field.Yet for all of Fichtner's "just one of the guys" persona, Dobbs allows there's a fire underneath even if it's imperceptible on the practice field. Just start watching film with Fichtner. The joking stops, at least briefly, replaced by Fichtner's inner perfectionist."When you get in the meeting room, he flips and he's the most passionate guy every single play," Dobbs said. "It's 'Do this and it's a touchdown. This is what we can do.'"The self-described "old dude" understands he's an unknown quantity outside the locker room. He's not inside the locker room. His role has changed. His approach has not."He's probably wanted to be an OC for a long time," Dobbs said. "So to get to that position where he's the guy calling plays and game-planning and to see him not change is really good. He's the same guy, bringing energy. ... I think that shows in how he attacks the field."NOTES: Tomlin said he does not plan to outline the team's plan for Bell with Bell's representative. Raiders week three report card vs Dolphins If you were to look at the week three boxscore you would think the Raiders completely dominated the Dolphins. They racked up 434 total yards of offense Womens Leon Hall Jersey , picked up 25 first downs, possessed the ball for just over 38 minutes, and ran 74 plays on offense to the Dolphins 39.Unfortunately, for the Raiders the scoreboard told the only story that matters.Once again the Raiders had a complete fourth quarter meltdown after a strong first half. The Raiders were outscored 14-3 in the fourth. On the season they have been outscored by opponents 37-3.The Raiders are now 0-3.They will head back home to host the Cleveland Browns in week four. Let’s take a look at the Raiders report card for week three.Aerial Attack: C+A week after setting an NFL record for completion percentage, Derek Carr once again finds himself squarely in the cross hairs of an unhappy fan base. For the most part, Carr played very well.He completed 27 of 39 passes for 345 yards and one touchdown.Trailing 21-17, late in the fourth quarter, on the Dolphins 13 yard line, Carr threw his second interception of the game ending any hopes the Raiders had for a win.I took major points off the grade for the crucial turnover. After two weeks of little to no production, Derek Carr and Jordy Nelson were able to get on the same page.Nelson had himself a huge game catching six passes for 173 yards and a touchdown.Outside of Nelson’s 173 yards Womens Derek Carrier Jersey , the rest of the Raiders receivers and backs were able to manage only 21 receptions for 172 yards.Amari Cooper was shut down with two catches for 17 yards.Ground Game: B-The Raiders have yet to establish a consistent run game in any of their first three games.Part of the blame goes on the offensive line not getting enough push. You certainly can’t fault Marshawn Lynch, he is running as angry as ever but with little production.Yards were hard to come by for Lynch, gaining only 64 yards on 19 carries. Doug Martin did well with his limited touches, gaining 43 yards with a 4.8 yards per carry average.Keith Smith was stuffed for no gain on his lone carry of the game.On fourth and one, on the Dolphins one yard line, Jon Gruden foolishly called a fullback dive to Smith that was met for no gain.Offensive line: C+With the amount of money invested in the offensive line there is no excuse for the lack of production in the run game.109 yards on 32 carries is not going to cut it.The offenses is relying too much on the arm of Derek Carr and the offensive line needs to step up and allow the run game to be the focal point.A great example of the lack of push the line gets was on the fourth and goal in the first quarter when fullback Keith Smith was stuffed at the one yard line.Kolton Miller had a crushing false start penalty in the second the second quarter. With the ball on the Dolphins two yard line, the penalty prevented the Raiders from scoring a touchdown and instead had to settle for a field goal.Derek Carr also took some big hits throughout the game, getting sacked three times.Donald Penn was lost for the game with a concussion in the first quarter.Defensive line: B-I think it’s fair to say that a B- for a group that generated zero pass rush is being very generous, even if they held the Dolphins run game to 41 yards. The lack of pass rush continues to be a major area of concern for the Raiders. They may need to look to add a free agent sooner rather than later to address the weakness.Clinton McDonald collected the groups only sack. Linebackers: C-Ryan Tannehill attacked the linebackers and the middle of the field in the passing game.Tannehill was able to dink and dunk the ball down the field with little resistance. The big play in the game was on a Dolphins trick play.A reverse pass that ended in a 52-yard Jakeem Grant touchdown.Tahir Whitehead fell for the reverse which allowed Grant to run down the sideline uncovered. Secondary: CThe script continues to be the same for the secondary.Early in the game they show flashes of play making ability, but late in the game when stops are needy they can’t get it done.Marcus Gilchrist missed a tackle on Jakeem Grant’s 52-yard touchdown reception which could have kept the Dolphins from scoring a touchdown. The Raiders allowed 332 yards passing and three touchdowns on 18 completions.Special Teams: DIt was a rough day at the office for the special teams.Lousy punts Womens Kolton Miller Jersey , penalties, and lack of production in the return game will earn you a D.There were two plays that stand out to me as being particularly bad.The first one, a punt return that Dwayne Harris did not field, but teammate Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie thought would be wise to pick up the ball inside his own 10.To make matters worse, Harris was called for an illegal block after a terrible return. The second was a Johnny Townsend punt.Punting from his own 45-yard line, Townsend badly needed to pin the Dolphins back deep.He was unable to do so and the result was a 25-yard punt. The Dolphins began their drive on the 30-yard line.Overall Grade: CRaiders head coach Jon Gruden gets his first win in ten years ‘feels like my first win in 100 years’ November 30, 2008. That was the last time Jon Gruden was on the winning end of a football game as an NFL head coach. After that he lost 7-straight. Although the last three came a long time after the first four and for two different teams. That streak ended today. It wasn’t easy. And at times it looked hopeless. And in fitting fashion, it simply couldn’t come in regulation. After starting his return to the Raiders with three straight losses. Jon Gruden finally notched his first win, beating the Browns 45-42 in overtime.Tasting victory as ahead coach is something Gruden hasn’t felt in a very long time. A decade in fact. That’s when he last roamed the sideline as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that he was a mainstay for nine years in the Monday Night Football booth, while running his Fired Football Coaches Association and pouring over NFL game tape. All that time Youth Justin Ellis Jersey , he knew he would eventually want to take another shot at being a head coach. He had to know that playing Monday morning quarterback and second guessing other coaches’ decisions was a lot easier than having to make those decisions himself and have them second guessed by everyone else.Ten years is a long time away. Made even longer when your return starts with 3-straight losses, all in heartbreaking fashion.“It feels like my first win in 100 years. It’s great to be back. I thank our fans for hanging in there with us. There was a lot of ups and downs, but to get that field goal from our third-string kicker, back-up long snapper. I’ve never been so nervous on a 29-yard field goal in my life.”The nervousness comes in part due to that same undrafted rookie kicker having already missed two field goals in this game, one of which in overtime. But there’s no question the bulk of it comes from how difficult it would be to come form behind several times, in unlikely fashion, only to see it all end in another loss, just like the first three.Along with the winless monkey off his back, Gruden’s Raiders didn’t fade down the stretch as they had in their first three games. But just as he seemed to keep a positive outlook over those losses, Gruden isn’t letting this win convince him this team is past their issues.“We haven’t fixed anything yet. We have a lot of things we have to get better at. I think it is pretty obvious Womens Jordy Nelson Jersey ,” said Gruden of the fourth quarter play. “We played some good football for stints. We played good football in Miami. We played some good football against the Rams. We had some really good tape against Denver, but we have tape that needs to be fixed. That’s the same thing that I think we will see today. We have some guys that are really eager to work, we have good leadership and we going to continue to do it. It was really fun to score and win a game and to get that monkey off our back.”It’s a time for celebration, mainly because of the relief of getting that first win out of the way. But it will be short lived. The season goes on and one win doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t lead to more.“We are going to celebrate tonight, but we have to get ready for Philip [Rivers] and the Chargers,” sad Gruden. “We are really happy, we are proud, we are excited. There is a lot to be thankful for.”Follow @LeviDamien

How every NFC South team but the Falcons fared in Week 2 It’s common knowledge in sports that Womens Robert Alford Jersey , if you take care of your own business, you don’t have to worry about anybody else as far as the standings are concerned. While this is entirely true, getting some help along the way is never a bad thing. This column will be completely dedicated to the results of the other three NFC South teams throughout the season, and hopefully we’ll be able to bask in their failures together. Here is how the Falcons’ division opponents fared in Week 2:Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27, Philadelphia Eagles 21What’s going on down in Tampa? Ryan Fitzpatrick, who’s only playing because starting quarterback Jameis Winston is in the middle of a three-game suspension, has been the most impressive QB in the NFC two weeks in.“Fitzmagic” sliced and diced the vaunted Philadelphia Eagles defense to the tune of 402 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Bucs led by as much as 20 at one point, and managed to fight off a Philly comeback attempt to move to 2-0 on the season.Tampa Bay was powered by 75+ yard, game-breaking, touchdown catches from DeSean Jackson and OJ Howard in this one Womens Ryan Schraeder Jersey , gashing an Eagles defense that stifled the Falcons last week. That same defense gave up 436 yards this week.I think it’s safe to say that the Bucs have been the surprise team in the NFL two weeks into the new season. After difficult matchups in New Orleans and against the Eagles, Tampa Bay is not only surviving this difficult early-season stretch, but they’re thriving. It would be difficult to see the Bucs putting Fitzpatrick back on the bench after Winston returns.New Orleans Saints 21, Cleveland Browns 18Zane Gonzalez whyyyyyy?! The New Orleans Saints escaped an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Browns thanks to a lot of luck. Cleveland’s kicker, Gonzalez, missed two field goals and two extra point attempts, leaving eight points on the board in a game where his team lost by three.A week after their defense got gashed repeatedly, it was New Orleans’ offense which almost didn’t show up this time around. Even with a late surge which ended up winning them the game, the Saints only managed to muster 275 yards of total offense.Up by six, with the Browns facing a decisive 4th-and-5 on the back end of the 2-minute warning , New Orleans gave up a 47-yard touchdown catch to Antonio Callaway on a picturesque pass by Tyrod Taylor. With a chance to take the lead, Gonzalez missed the PAT. Following a Field Goal drive by Drew Brees and company, the Browns once again fought their way downfield and gave Gonzalez a chance at redemption in the form of a 52-yard potential game-tying Field Goal. He missed. The Saints are lucky to have won this game, as the Browns led 12-3 at one point in the fourth quarter. A win is a win, however, and the Saints pulled it out. Michael Thomas scored two more touchdowns to build on his impressive start to the season.NFC South Standings after Week 2Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0 overall record; 1-0 divisional record) - Next vs. SteelersAtlanta Falcons (1-1 overall record; 1-0 divisional record) - Next vs. SaintsCarolina Panthers (1-1 overall record; 0-1 divisional record) - Next vs. BengalsNew Orleans Saints (1-1 overall record; 0-1 divisional record) - Next at FalconsKeanu Neal exits game with knee injury, accompanying dread The Atlanta Falcons have not had a good football game, and now they may have lost one of their best defenders. Keanu Neal is out of the game with a knee injury, and a non-contact knee injury, at that.Neal was down earlier in the game with a leg injury but was able to return , which was a huge relief at the time. This time, he’s not coming back, and that’s not at all encouraging. I’m not even going to write aloud what a non-contact knee injury often means for players and just hope for the best, as I hope all of you will. Damontae Kazee was the preseason hero for Atlanta and can now try to build on that rock solid exhibition season, as he’ll play the rest of this one at strong safety in Neal’s stead. Please stay healthy, Atlanta, because I don’t think my heart can take much more of this in the very first game of the season.

  • chenyan94 ha creado el nuevo tema » Michael Dickson is working on 60-yard dropkick fie en los foros.
in practice It’s hard to turn down any opportunity to talk about Michael Dickson. Not just because of our own obsession with the rookie punter as Seahawks fans YouthEarl Thomas III Jersey , but also because the punter from down unter keeps doing so many damn interesting things. His punts are as consistently good as we’ve ever seen from a player at his position. (His shank came after a bad snap.) He can dropkick kickoff. And he even attempted a dropkick onside kick against the Chicago Bears. What’s next? Dickson told Q13 FOX in a special all about him that as soon as he heard that a dropkick through the uprights was worth three points, he started working on it.And that he was hitting from 60 yards.Dickson acknowledges that the rate of success on those kicks is likely going to be much different in a game situation, when the pressure is on and defenders are running at you, but it seems inevitable at this point that we’re going to see it eventually. Here’s the feature on Dickson, followed by a video detailing the history of rare dropkick field goal attempts. In 2005, Doug Flutie had a dropkick PAT for the Patriots. The last NFL dropkick field goal or PAT attempt before that: 1941. The last successful dropkick field goal was 1937. The Arizona Cardinals are the only team without a victory in the NFL. Their 0-4 start is the Cardinals' worst since 1986, two years before the franchise moved to the desert from St. Louis. There were many bad teams in the intervening years but all managed to win one early.Still, there is a sense of optimism as the team prepares to face the 49ers in San Francisco, and it all stems from the performance of Josh Rosen in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks."I thought he played well. I thought he gave us every opportunity for us to win that football game," Arizona coach Steve Wilks said at his Monday news conference. "Very poised, a great leader, put the ball where it needed to be. Great accuracy, good arm strength. And I loved the way he just commanded the offense and the way we went down the field sometimes."Rosen, in his first NFL start, completed 15 of 27 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. The numbers should have been better because five passes were dropped. Two were by Larry Fitzgerald Womens Tyler Lockett Jersey , difficult catches but ones he usually makes. And there was one apiece by Ricky Seals-Jones, Christian Kirk and J.J. Nelson.Nelson was behind the secondary and headed for a score with a long pass when it slipped through his fingers, costing at least 40 yards if not a touchdown. But Rosen encouraged his receivers through the difficulties."I mean, the other alternative is all bad, so you might as well keep pushing on," he said after the game. "Trying to encourage everyone, if something happens bad, let's get better, and if something happens good let's keep going. So, that's kind of how sports work, is you just kind of always have to have a positive attitude."Fitzgerald loved what he saw from the 19th quarterback to complete a pass to him in his 15 seasons."He's got great huddle composure and demand. He's got everybody's full attention," said Fitzgerald, who is slowed by a sore hamstring. "You look in his eyes and he's ready for the task. It was great to see him come out and perform and to do some of the things he did, like I said, skill positions , we didn't help him. The balls were where they were supposed to be and that's encouraging."Wilks admired Rosen's accuracy."When you look at some of the throws, particularly the two to Ricky late in the game 鈥?tight windows, very impressive," Wilks said. "when you look at a rookie being able to make those kinds of throws in that particular situation I thought was very impressive."Rosen, Wilks said, "gave us a spark that we needed. I'm disappointed we just couldn't finish yesterday."Arizona also was able to get a little more from David Johnson, with the big running back lining up at wide receiver a few times. He finished with 112 yards from scrimmage, 71 rushing and 41 receiving. But there were enough problems on offense and defense to lead to another loss, culminating with Phil Dawson's missed 45-yard field goal with 1:50 to play and Seattle's late drive for the game-winning field goal.So how does the team dig out of this 0-4 start?"I keep going back to Josh, I'm just so encouraged based off of what I saw yesterday," Wilks said. "I think you guys saw the potential of pushing the ball down the field, which we haven't had in the first three weeks of the season. We've got to finish now. Those guys are wide open; they've got to make those catches."His ability to get outside of the pocket and buy time on the sprint outs and the boots and to move the pocket, if we are having some issues as far as protection, I think we can help him out a little bit there. Then you saw the glimpse of David and the things that he can do as far as moving him around. I think our offense is getting ready to flourish."Notes: Wilks said he expects Andre Smith to be back at starting right tackle. Smith has missed the last three games with an elbow injury. ... Wilks said he expects to continue using Mike Glennon as the backup quarterback. Sam Bradford was inactive Sunday.

  • chenyan94 ha creado el nuevo tema » I knew the Jets offensive line had a bad game en los foros.
against Jacksonville , as expected considering the absurdly talented defensive front they were competing against. However, it did not occur to me while watching the game live that the line was as terrible as they turned out to look when rewatching the tape. This was an atrocious outing - in my opinion, the third consecutive week they have regressed. And, this was the largest regression.Let’s dive in!Previous editions: Pre 1, Pre 2, Pre 3, Pre 4, W1-DET, W2-MIA, W3-CLEAs I will always mention, it is impossible to capture everything with the stats, but with this series I hope to capture the most impactful plays accumulated by each linemen, both positive and negative, to help better our perspective on their production levels. Every single snap does matter, and here we will only be grading a small portion of those snaps, but this data can still help shape our opinions on players more properly and truly. Do not use these numbers as final judgement, but as useful evidence. Here’s what I’ve been tracking:Stuffs (runs for 2 yards or less and no first down) allowed in the run gameRushing first downs assisted“Setup runs” assisted (which I now define as a 5+ yard pickup on 1st-3rd down that did not result in a first down). Despite not resulting in a first down, these kinds of pickups are still positive plays that deserve to be tracked.Sacks allowedQB hits allowedQB pressures allowed (pressure counts now include all throws affected by pressure, forced rollouts/dodged defenders, and forced throwaways)Deflections allowed (occurrences when allowing the currently engaged defender to bat/deflect a pass at the line)Open field assists (blocking assists for significant extra yardage/first down by any player, OL or skill position Authentic Brian Winters Jersey , in the pass game while a pass receiver has the football)Pass blocking snaps (UPDATE: Pass blocking snaps now counted for all players rather than just the base five linemen. Team pass attempts + sacks)Penalties (Total accepted, yards, first downs/scores wiped out, and declined)Here are the numbers for the Jets in Week 4! Shield your eyes! Some of my takeaways:It all fell apart for Brandon Shell. While his first three games were on the whole very solid, he was walking on thin ice over the past two weeks, allowing 3 pressures in each game without being tagged for any sacks or hits. The walls finally caved in. Shell played the worst game of any lineman this season. He was getting abused on the edge by Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue. I tagged Shell for a sack, a hit, and a whopping 6 pressures, for a total of 8 pressures that is the most I’ve tagged a Jet for in a single game throughout the entire preseason and the first quarter of the regular season.Fowler and Ngakoue were getting it done in all sorts of ways against Shell - inside, outside, speed power. In particular, Shell was absolutely decimated by the inside spin move, especially by Fowler. It was quite a fall for Shell. He had Sam running for his life all game. The entire line struggled. All in all, by my count, they allowed 21 total pressures across 37 official Darnold dropbacks. That’s a horrifyingly terrible rate of pressure, regardless of who the opponent is. The only Jet lineman to allow less than 2 pressures was Spencer Long, who gave up an awful sack on a missed stunt. The Jets barely bothered to run the ball, making only 14 attempts, tied for the 7th lowest total on the season through four weeks. When they did, it was ineffective, as they ran for only 2.4 yards per carry and compiled a ghastly 9:1 stuff-to-first down ratio. Long continues to be boom-or-bust (with more bust so far) in this phase of the game while Brian Winters is simply becoming a major liability. To this point Womens Brandon Copeland Jersey , the Jets are the only team in the league with 2 games in which they averaged less than 2.5 yards per carry.Shoutout to Chris Herndon and Jordan Leggett. I decided to start tallying pass protection snaps for skill position players, and it turns out Herndon has had a perfectly clean 11 pass pro reps so far. Solid start in that phase for him despite his shaky run blocking. As for Leggett, the opposite is true. He hasn’t played a role in pass protection, but I now have him at 4 rushing assists and 0 stuffs allowed so far.FILMI’m not going to say a whole lot about this first clip, other than that it is a perfect microcosm of the offensive line’s performance in this game. You saw Brandon Shell get pummeled in the clip above, luckily Dante Fowler tripped and could not create any pressure. Let’s focus a bit more on Shell, who as mentioned had a monstrosity of a game. Here, Shell gets too high against Ngakoue and allows him to easily rip through and dip underneath to get the hit on Darnold. This time, Ngakoue picks up a sack against Shell. Again lined up out wide as the 9-technique, this time Ngakoue powers right through Shell as he gets his hips extremely low to the ground, gets beneath the pads of Shell, and engages with a powerful first punch. The power game has always been Shell’s weakness due to an inability to generate power from the lower body up and drive defenders. Just a sheer speed/power win from Ngakoue. On a positive note, Ngakoue tried this same move again a few times later in the game and Shell was better prepared for it. He makes strong first contact this time, then gets underneath and showcases good balance to hold off Ngakoue’s power. Here we’ll wrap up with Shell and transition into the next issue I’d like to discuss: the Jets cannot stop stunts for anything. With the Shell, you can see him toasted by Dante Fowler with the inside spin move I mentioned earlier. Fowler beat him with this a trio of times. On the inside, Spencer Long has zero feel for the stunt as Malik Jackson flies through for a free sack. Back-to-back games allowing a sack for Long.Another pressure on a stunt as Darnold is forced to throw it away. This time it’s on the right side against Shell and Winters. Abry Jones attacks the B gap eating up both as Dante Fowler runs free up the middle. The Jags also stunted on the left side but the Jets pick it up with 3 blockers against 2 rushers. Here, the Jags run the same exact stunt on the offense’s right side. Winters picks it up correctly.Kelvin Beachum wasn’t off the hook in this game, allowing three pressures of his own. This one is about as bad as it gets without any contact. It’s reminiscent of a Manu Ginobili eurostep. Yannick Ngakoue just gives one jab outside and is able to easily force Darnold outside of the pocket with a free lane inside. Money throw by Darnold, by the way. It’s fitting that the Jets allowed a safety in this game. I’m indifferent to this play call as the Jets run an outside zone this far backed up. Brian Winters immediately hits the second level and lets the defensive tackle (#99 Marcell Dareus) leak into the backfield. It could be a personal blunder but I think this just might be his assignment on this play, which obviously doesn’t make sense. The main culprit is Kelvin Beachum who lets Calais Campbell shoot the gap effortlessly. Poor blocking but a great play by a 6’8 man who is not supposed to be able to move like that.Isaiah Crowell has had an appalling past couple of games in pass protection, allowing 3 pressures and a sack on his past 4 pass blocking snaps. That’s more total pressures allowed in two games than I’ve tagged the rest of the Jets skill position players for throughout the entire season combined. This effort is embarrassing. There is literally nothing on display here that any coach would ever teach a running back to do while pass protecting. The Jets are going to continue to be one of the league’s worst rushing teams (they are 26th in yards per game and yards per attempt) if their interior linemen keep getting blown off the ball like Winters does in the first clip and Long in the second. To finish on a positive note Womens Doug Middleton Jersey , I’m becoming very impressed with Jordan Leggett’s blocking ability, which is a stunner. He scored his first career touchdown against the Jaguars, but perhaps more notable was his key block on Calais Campbell to facilitate the Jets’ only rushing first down of the game. I featured him last week assisting with a block on Myles Garrett. The Jets did not even use an extra blocker for most of this game, while they consistently were beaten by 4-man rushes. I counted the Jets as using an extra blocker on only 5 snaps, and they still yielded pressure on 4 of those. If your offensive line can’t keep the quarterback clean when it has the man advantage, that’s just another overarching issue, but I thought the Jets should have given Sam Darnold more protection in this game. This was the least they’ve used their backs and tight ends in pass protection, against an otherworldly front they were getting owned by. That was a bit of a head-scratcher.Here is how the Jets are stacking up through one quarter of the year!Understanding The Practice Squad More than 1,100 players were cut by NFL teams this weekend. For more than 320 of them, that won’t mean the end of their NFL dreams. In addition to the 53 man roster, every NFL team is permitted to maintain a practice squad of up to 10 players. Some teams may have an 11th “international player,” whose primary residence is outside the United States. The league will decide in any given year which teams will be allowed to have such a player.Practice squad players practice with the team every week but are ineligible, as long as they remain on the practice squad, to play in NFL games. Let’s take a closer look at how the practice squad works.SIGNING PRACTICE SQUAD PLAYERSFinal roster cuts from the off season 90 man rosters to the in season 53 man rosters took place this weekend. At 4:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 1, every NFL team was required to reduce their roster to 53 players. Players cut with four or more years of NFL experience became unrestricted free agents and are immediately free to sign with any other NFL team. Players with less than four years of NFL experience were placed on waivers, and their contracts can be claimed by any other NFL team during the waiver period starting4:00 p.m. EDT Saturday and ending 12:00 p.m. EDT Sunday. Successful waiver claims are processed in order of the waiver priority of any claiming teams, which priority is the same order as the 2018 NFL draft order prior to any trades. NFL teams can begin signing players to their practice squads on Sunday, September 2, starting at 1:00 p.m. EDT.As soon as roster cuts are made, teams begin negotiating with the agents of the players they want on their practice squad Womens Neal Sterling Jersey , but nothing is final before Sunday at 1:00 p.m, since any player a team wants might be subject to being claimed by another team and signed to their 53 man roster.ELIGIBILITYNot all players are eligible for the practice squad. Up to four players per practice squad may have up to two years of NFL experience each. Other than those four players, only players who have been on an active roster for fewer than nine games in any season of their careers are eligible for the practice squad.A player is allowed on the practice squad for up to two years, provided that only years in which a player spends at least six weeks on a practice squad count against the two year limit. A third year of practice squad eligibility is allowed only if the team keeps 53 players on their active roster at all times.PRACTICE SQUAD SALARIESPractice squad players earn a minimum salary of $7,600 for every week they are on the practice squad, or about $130,000 for a full 17 week season. Teams are free to pay more than the minimum; there isno upper limit. However, in practice the vast majority of practice squad players earn the minimum salary of $7,600 per week. As a result, the entire practice squad will ordinarily cost an NFL team approximately $1.3 million for an entire season, all of which counts against the salary cap.A SPECIAL KIND OF RESTRICTED FREE AGENTSA practice squad player is in effect a special category of restricted free agent. Any practice squad player is free at any time to sign with any other NFL team. However, if any NFL team signs any player from another team’s practice squad, the signing team must add the practice squad player to their 53 man roster, keep him there for at least three weeks, and pay him at least the NFL minimum salary for those three weeks. Even if said player is released prior to the expiration of that three week period, he still must be paid and he counts against the signing team’s 53 man roster. In addition, practice squad players can’t be signed by another team any less than five days before the game, or nine days during a bye week, in the period leading up to a game against said other team. This is to prevent teams using practice squad players for the sole purpose of gathering information on their opponents.

  • chenyan94 ha creado el nuevo tema » Jason Verrett is done for the season en los foros.
Cheap Melvin Ingram Jersey , but what’s next? In the NFL, every year is a blank slate. With each turn in the calendar comes brand new opportunity for success waiting to be seized by whichever team is up next in the ever-changing hierarchy of the league. In turn, also comes the inevitable disappointment that is attributed to the teams that finds themselves lower in the standings than they envisioned at the start of the season. The NFL is far from predictable and nothing is certain—well, almost nothing. For certain teams, some things never change. For instance, you can enter the season expecting to see the Patriots win at least eleven games and you can expect to see the Browns lose eleven games. These things happen virtually every year, with a rare exception here and there. Today we were reminded that similarly, the Los Angeles Chargers have a seemingly inevitable annual tradition of their own. That being the fact that no matter how high, or how low, the hopes for the coming season, several of the team’s best players will suffer devastating injuries that drive a knife through the collective hearts of fans far and wide. For the fourth time in five seasons, the heartbreaking injury was sustained by former Pro Bowl cornerback, Jason Verrett. The frequency at which Verrett has seen his season come to an end due to injury has caused this one in particular to feel numb, in a way. It is supremely disappointing to see, of course, but at this point it would be more shocking if he went a full season without being injured than if he were to tear his Achilles during a conditioning test on the first day of camp—as absurd as that is. The injury is devastating, but not in the same way as others, such as the one suffered by Hunter Henry recently. Henry’s injury was a major blow to the team as they lost one of their top offensive weapons, leading one to be concerned with how they make up for the loss on the field. Verrett’s injury Cheap Jahleel Addae Jersey , on the other hand, brings no such concerns. It is indeed devastating, but only because it causes you to feel great sorrow for Verrett as a person. To see what could have been a great career be decimated by injuries is a shame. Due to his injury history and how well the secondary performed without him last season, it would have been a bonus to have Verrett in the lineup, not an expectation or necessity. In fact, his return this season would have caused a serious log jam at the position for the team. After he went down last season, Trevor Williams emerged as a more than adequate CB2 while then rookie, Desmond King, excelled as the team’s slot corner. Bringing Verrett back into the mix would have forced one of these players to the bench, and possibly to another position—in King’s case. While it is awful to see Verrett miss the season, it does serve to alleviate one of the team’s more pressing issues heading into camp, allowing them to retain some continuity in the secondary. So if there were ever a bright side to losing a Pro Bowl player before the start of the season, this is it. In short, the team’s secondary will perform at a high level next season, with or without Jason Verrett. The near future is still as bright as ever for the Los Angeles Chargers, but it couldn’t be darker for the career of Jason Verrett. Any chances he had of obtaining a multi-year extension with the team went out the window the second his Achilles tendon snapped. Now, a player who once looked to be one of the best young cornerbacks in the NFL will likely find himself taking a one-year deal next offseason, with that contract being his last chance to prove he can remain healthy and make it in the NFL. Football is a cruel sport. The Top 32 & Overall Big Board for the 2018 NFL Draft On the Lightning Round Podcast we’ve spent months digging through tape on the 2018 draft prospects and this year we created our own grading system. We both used a uniform 100-point grading scale of what we felt were the 5 most important categories for each position group and graded accordingly. The numerical grade was our most fitting representation for each player’s NFL projection. Once given a total grade, the player was then slotted into what round and specifically how high or low in that round in which the player’s talent lands on the draft scale. Below are our “Top 32” players and as you’ll see not every player on this list has a 1st round grade Cheap Denzel Perryman Jersey , 32 players will go in the 1st but not all will have a 1st Round grade. Tom Telesco said it yesterday in his press conference, he’s never been part of an organization that’s had 32 1st Round grades on Draft Day, it is not all that uncommon.
